Where Is The Best Freshwater Fishing In The World?

I’m planning a fishing trip in the next year and need some ideas. I’ve heard Alaska and Argentina have really big fish.

I have fished in both. Alaska is great and so is Argentina. The “Golden Dorado” is an awesome fighter. I would really check out Argentina first. It was an amazing experience. Hint go in Oct-Nov. Here are a few websiteshttp://www.golden-dorado.com/http://www.xclusivexpeditions.com/flash….

The Mequinenza Fishing camp along the River Ebro in Spain gives you the chance to catch Wels catfish (biggest I’ve heard of is over 200lb’s) & Large Carp.http://www.spanish-catfish-ebro.com/
The Fraser River system in British Columbia (Canada) is supposed to have some ****-hot game fishing action, along with some HUGE Sturgeon. http://www.freds-bc.com/index.htm

If you are into trout fishing, New Zealand is absolutely amazing. I was there in January (summertime there) for my honeymoon and had not looked into that aspect of the trip. I ended up buying a gear and managed to get out almost every day. Nationally, the average trout goes about 5 lbs, 8-10 lbs is common and I witnessed fish being caught in the 15 lb range.
Fishing is excellent throughout the country, particularly good were the Rotorua and Taupo regions on the North Island. Rotorua has 10 lakes of various sizes along with hundreds streams and rivers running throughout the area. You can get a non-resident national license which is valid throughout the country, however to fish the Taupo region you will need an additional permit. The country is divided into fishing regions and detailed maps are available for each region along with a book detailing special region regulations, fly-fishing only and off limit areas.
Each of the local tackle shops I visited offered great recommendations on locations and tackle. The fish were agressive and fight exceptionally well. I went through several spinners that were just worn out from catching fish.
The explaination for the huge size of the fish is pretty simple on the North Island. The weather is moderate to warm year round but most of the lakes, rivers and streams are fed from cold springs. It is the ideal location to be if you are a trout.
