What Is The Difference Between The Sizes Of Fly Fishing Flies?
A website shows “sizes 8-12″. What does this mean and what should I use for trout?
I think it has to do with weight and size but which way does it go. The higher number…… or the lower the number?

The fly size gets smaller as the number increases. Weight has no bearing on the the fly size as feathers and fur are almost weightless, although there are weighted nymphs but that has no bearing on fly size.
Your question on what size you should use for trout depends on many factors. All sizes can catch trout under the right conditions (to varied to explain here). The best advice I can give you is to visit or call a local Fly Fishing shop and tell them where you want to fish and ask their opinion on what flies have been working. If the Fly Shop has guide services also, all the better. That just means it’s their business to know what the trout are hungry for. Ask lots of questions.
Remember any time you can get a fish to bite an artificial fly you have “Perpetrated the Fraud”. Good luck.
