I have a small fishing finder that takes a 12v or 6v battery. I see solar panel chargers that hook up to the battery and charge that.. but my question is:
Is it possible to hook up the solar panel to the fishing finder without the battery and run it whenever the bright sun is out? [...]

you could use radar
or you could drop a rope down, find where the rope stopped going under, then measure the rope
